Maury's Story

Maury Haefner of Mankato, MN, age 69 passed peacefully on July 2, 2018 after recent health complications stemming from his prior cancer treatments.

Maury was born to Lester and Mertyce (Mace) Haefner on June 13, 1949. He graduated from Mankato High (1967) which is where he met the love of his life Anne Tolin; they married May 15, 1971 and had 3 children Troy, Heidi and Melissa.

After high school Maury joined the National Guard (1967-1973), attended Mankato State, and then obtained his Master Electrician license. He worked with his father at Haefner Electric and took over the company after his father's passing. He also developed land around the homestead he grew up on, including Cedar Ridge Townhomes. Maury loved to collect old cars and attend auctions to find his next treasure.

Maury bravely battled his cancer and was able to have 15 years of additional time with his family and to watch his beloved grandsons Owen and Tyler grow up. Maury leaves behind his wife Anne Haefner, daughter Heidi Haefner and her son Owen, daughter Melissa Haefner and her boyfriend Jeff Plath, grandson Tyler Haefner (Troy's son), sister Maurine Corcoran and nieces Kim Warness and Leanne Corcoran, and sister Michelle Long.

He is also survived by his dogs Max and Bear. Dogs were always a special part of his life and many have preceded him in death.

Maury was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved grandparents Claude and Orilia Mace, his mother-in-law Susie Tolin, his brother-in-law Michael Corcoran, and his son Troy Haefner.

Those that knew Maury, especially before his illness, will remember his sense of humor, his fun-loving mischievous spirit as well as his enjoyment of gathering with friends and family. To celebrate Maury, and his life with us, in a way he would have wanted and in lieu of a traditional service we are hosting a celebration of his life with food and drinks to be held Sunday July 22, 2018 at the Loose Moose Conference Center at 2 p.m. Friends and family please join us to gather and celebrate his life, and to reminisce and share your favorite stories and memories of Maury.
