David Fields

David Lyle Fields, age 70, passed away in Staples, MN on November 11, 2019, from complications of MDS.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodland Hills Funeral Home in Mankato. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date. A celebration of Dave’s life will be held November 30 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at North Mankato American Legion Post 518.

David grew up in North Mankato, attended Holy Rosary Catholic School, and graduated from Mankato High School in 1967. He proudly served in the Army Reserve 492nd ENG Co from 1970-1977. He was a 3rd generation bricklayer and life member of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsworkers for 50 years. He was a charter member of North Mankato American Legion Post 518, a member of Holy Rosary Parish, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5551.

David was an avid deer hunter and he loved to fish. He retired to the Pequot Lakes area to enjoy the woods and the water. David was a generous spirit who would do anything for anyone who needed a hand. Due to the health challenges he faced later in life he always reminded people to donate blood or give to the Red Cross. He was most proud of his military service, being a bricklayer, and his four daughters.

David is survived by Molly, his wife of 50 years, his four daughters, Rebecca (Greg) Grunig, Catherine (Dave) Nelson, Patricia Fields, and Sook Ja Nam, siblings, Lynn Reed, Dale Fields, and Leslie Fields, grandsons Tyler Cromwell and Gaius Hensley, three step-grandchildren, Brandon Grunig, Michael Nelson, and Dylan Nelson, and many wonderful family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Elaine Fields.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to Schola Foundation at Loyola Catholic School to support Catholic education or the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) of MN to support hunting and fishing opportunities for veterans.
